GOES-16 was put into Mode 4 (Continuous Full Disk Mode) the afternoon of 19 August through the evening of the 20th. Mode 4 includes 5-min imagery across the full disk (no 1-min sectors) as opposed to 15-min imagery. This provides a great opportunity to observe the evolution of features outside of the CONUS (which benefits from 5-min imagery regardless of mode). Figure 1 depicts a developing low in the far south Pacific Ocean.
